DirecTransFile – Transfer Files from One PC to another over Internet

There are a number of ways to transfer files directly from one computer to another via the internet, but most of the popular methods are unreliable at best. Anyone who has tried to do this using Skype, for instance, will know that it is completely unsuitable for large files. Email also has associated size limits of between 10mb and 20mb, which is nothing these days. Bit Torrent and other P2P methods, by their very nature, are just not secure enough if the files are confidential or copyrighted and not everyone has (or wants) a cloud solution.

DirecTransFile is a small, portable application that requires no installation and allows you to directly transfer a file of any type and size to another computer also running the application. It is extremely easy to setup and begin uploading files, and the transfer process is faster and more stable than any of the above methods.

DirecTransFile (DTF) software allows you to transfer files or directories through internet directly from user to user. It doesn't use protocols of peer-to-peer networks - the software allows you to traverse NATs, it doesn't publish file names throughout internet and allow more conveniently working with folders.

  •    Without installation.
  •    Without registration.
  •    Without uploading of files into storage servers.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Download DirecTransFile executable file dtf.exe to your computer. Whenever you want to initiate a DirecTransFile session, just launch this file. There is no installation, setup or configuration required.
  2. Double-click the file dtf.exe to get started. A Windows Firewall exception dialog appears. DirecTransFile must have access through the Windows Firewall in order to function properly, so ensure you click Allow Access (Unblock on Windows XP). If you accidentally click Cancel (Keep Blocking on Windows XP), you can correct this in the Windows Control Panel options for Windows Firewall.
  3. The DirecTransFile Quick Start Wizard is displayed. Click Create New Upload Session, and in the window that appears, click the top green plus icon and locate a file on your computer to upload using the Explorer window. Repeat this step if you wish to transfer multiple files. To upload a folder, click the green plus icon underneath and to delete any upload file/folder entries from the list, click to highlight them and then select the red cross button.
  4. Click the Register button to begin the upload process. Depending on the size and number of files, and your internet connection, this step may take several minutes or even hours. Once this is complete, an upload code is displayed.
  5. Copy the upload code and share it with the recipient of the upload, either by instant messaging, email or any other means.
  6. The recipient must also download and run DirecTransFile as per the above steps. When the application has launched, the recipient must enter the upload code into the "Start New Download from Link" field and press Enter. The recipient must then specify a local directory to save the file/folder(s) to.
  7. The download will begin on the recipient’s computer, and this will again depend on the number and size of the files, and the available network bandwidth. Once completed, the file is available in the local folder specified by the recipient.
